Accessorize Me

If I could have a Super Power today, I would want to be able to quickly take a look at an item and immediately know how to accessorize it {or accessorize with it} and voila! a blogworthy outfit would be made.  I do not have this knack.  Instead, I have a knack for flipping through catalogs and staying within my comfort zone.  My eyes are perpetually drawn to tried and true items that seem to be classic instead of those trendier items {J.Crew bubble necklace, I’m lookin’ at you}.

Since I don’t seem to think outside the box enough, I leave that up to the pros.  Today I came across a Stella & Dot necklace that I have not noticed before.  Victoria at vmac+cheese recently featured the Wesley Pendant on her blog and I knew I needed it.  Since all of my necklaces are the long chain type, this pendant is the perfect next step.  A little bling, if you will.

S&D Wesley Pendant

Lucky for me {and you!} Stella & Dot is running a promotion right now: for every $50 you spend, you receive a $25 credit to spend in January.  Just in time for the new pieces to make their debut!  I just attended a trunk show Sunday so this necklace is at the top of my list to use my credits on in January.  Perfect excuse to shop!

High Five for Friday

I’ve been looking forward to this week for well…weeks and as always, it has flown by.  Busy busy busy: a wedding, two birthday parties, movie date, dinner with friends, another dinner with friends, Independence Day, prepping for our engagement shoot, another birthday party.  Squeeze work into that schedule and I’m ready for a vacation.

I don’t feel like I took nearly enough pictures to capture everything that we squeezed in, but this is our week at a glance. {I really should get better at that if I’m going to keep up this blogging gig}

1.  You’re all well aware that I love my EC Life Planner so any free time I had this week, was occupied by getting my new one ready to go.  Of course Lucy Eleanor had to be right in the middle of the action 🙂

2.  An afternoon at the Texas Medical Center for work reminded me how much I enjoy the hustle and bustle of it all.  Top it off with a beautiful afternoon and I was plain ol’ happy.

3.  Last month I forgot to download Ashley Brooke Designs‘ iPad calendar so I made a point to get to it this week.  Aren’t her designs adorable!

4. This year’s 4th of July was low key for me.  I spent the morning at my parents house for a classic {i.e. loud}, family breakfast and planned an impromptu ‘semi-homemade’ dinner.  Can you go wrong with crock pot pulled pork and strawberry shortcake?  I didn’t think so.

5.  How can I be such an avid planner yet procrastinate just as much?  We’ve had our engagement shoot planned for weeks and I had one particular photo that I want to re-create.  Of course, I couldn’t find the perfect confetti so I took on the challenge of making some.  This mess is hard work but with Felicity at my side, I’m positive the results are going to be amazing!  With this lovely lady behind the camera, I don’t have anything other than the 90+ degree weather to worry about.

hanging in there

Hanging in there.  Story of my life these days.  Why do I always feel as though there is never enough time?  Tonight I have a long over due haircut appointment with my sister, Friday we’re having friends over for dinner so that leaves tomorrow evening to clean and shop for Friday.  Perhaps I’m not managing my time wisely? Perhaps.

On with the photo{s} of the day{s}…

Nothing is better than a cold coke straight out of a cold refridgerator poured over ice in a plastic cup.  Before I know it, my cup is empty.

24, guilty pleasure

While browsing Pinterest and looking for brunch ideas, I found a recipe for Red Velvet Whoopie Pies.  I love red velvet and anything that is miniature immediately demands my attention.  Not to mention the pies in her picture are heart shaped!  Heart shaped red velvet?  Sold!  My first attempt at these pretty little things was not too bad.  The cookies were the perfect texture and help up quite nicely when the sandwiches were made.  My only issue is with the cream cheese frosting; this recipe was a tad too cheesy for my liking.  Enter Ashley.  After a quick email this morning soliciting her help, I had a new recipe in no time!  I can’t wait to have the finished product in a few weeks 🙂

25, something you made

eighty days

Eighty days.  That’s the number of days it has been since I wrote a blog post.  My friends are ashamed of me.  I have good excuses reasons though!

But now, I’m back!  It’s a new year and I’m motivated to jump on the blog-train {along with many other trains…}.  What better way to start up again than with a template, if you will.  I’m linking up with The Tichenor Family and joining the Photo-a-day Challenge {photo-a-day challenge originally from fat mum slim} and I’m going to stick with this.  Promise!  Slap me on the wrist if I don’t 🙂

Photo-a-day Challenge

Yes, I know today is the 16th day of the year but rather than overwhelming myself trying to take pictures of the last 15 day “ideas”, I’ll just start with today.  Without further adeiu, morning:

16, morning

Since Lee and I moved to the ‘burbs {I suppose I forgot to mention that part}, coffee is at the top of my to-do list once I get to work.  I dock my laptop, throw my keys on my desk, and go make myself a creamy cup of Starbucks instant coffee {no judging, please}.

I’ll be back tomorrow with numero 17.  If you’re reading, jump on the photo-train!

Samples Galore!

Ashley recently reminded me of this great beauty membership and I finally decided to join.  I first heard of Birchbox about a year ago and thought it might be too good to be true but from what I’ve heard, it’s fantastic!   You pay a monthly membership fee and every month, they send you a box of goodies.  Can’t beat that!  My first Birchbox should be delivered mid-November and I cannot wait!

My beauty and skin regime has been the same for YEARS.  I’ve tried new products here and there but have always gone back to the tried and true.  With Birchbox, I have the opportunity to try many samples without actually having to purchase full size products.  And if I do decide to purchase a full size product, my accumulated points can be used toward a purchase.  Win/win!

The One Where Megan Runs

When I was in high school, I related nearly every life experience to a Friends episode.  Nine-ish years later, I’m still doing it.

See, due to my lack of self-motivation, I have joined a walk to run training program at Luke’s Locker.  Because I absolutely need accountability, the 9 to 5 program was made for me!  The 9 to 5 is much like the various couch to 5k programs, but this program leaves me with someone to answer to once a week.  And if I don’t train on my own, I’ll be the last one to the finish line come Saturday mornings {no bueno}.

Our first group run experience was last Saturday and I swear I felt like Phoebe Buffay throughout the entire 14 minute run {realistically, 7 minutes is all I could manage}.  Remember that episode?!

Similar to “dance like no one’s watching”, my dad left me a message on Facebook: “run like no one’s watching.”  How do dad’s seem to know exactly what type of motivation you need?  This has become my new mantra since this project is really making me leave my comfort zone in more ways than one: running {because I suck at it}, committing to an exercise routine {because I suck at this too}, and making friends along the way {you guessed it, I suck at this big time}.  I’m learning to let go and not worry about what other people are thinking because guess what…they probably don’t care!

After this experience is done {Turkey Trot 2011!}, I just might have to buy this print and continue to remind myself…
